Type the numbers of the pages you do not want, such as 3 or 2, 5-7, and download the PDF without them. Everything else stays exactly as it was: same page order, same quality, same text you can select and search.
This is the quickest route when you already know which pages have to go: a blank page left by a scanner, a duplicated cover, terms and conditions nobody needs to print, or a page with information you should not be sending on. There is no need to scroll through thumbnails or rebuild the document.
The removed pages are taken out of the file properly. Their text and images are dropped rather than just hidden, so the file gets smaller and the deleted pages cannot be recovered from the copy you send. Bookmarks that pointed to the remaining pages still lead to the right place.
How to remove Pages
- Add your PDF. Drop it on the box above or tap to choose it. One file at a time, up to 100 MB.
- Enter the pages to remove. Single pages and ranges, separated by commas: 2, 5-7, 12. Use 10- to remove page 10 and everything after it.
- Remove and download. The new file keeps every other page in its original order, ending in -edited so it sits next to the original.
Writing the page list
Page numbers count from the start of the file, beginning at 1, whatever numbers are printed on the pages themselves. A report whose first printed number appears on its third sheet still starts at page 1 here. If unsure, check the page count your PDF reader shows in its toolbar.
Separate entries with commas. A single number removes one page, 4-9 removes that whole range, and 15- removes page 15 through to the end, handy for cutting an appendix without counting it. Spaces do not matter and the order you type them in does not matter either.
You cannot remove every page, because a PDF has to contain at least one. If you meant to keep only a few pages rather than remove a few, Split PDF is quicker: list the pages to keep and it extracts them into a new file.
What stays in the file
The pages you keep are not copied into a new document. They stay in the original file and only the unwanted pages are taken out, which means fillable form fields, document properties such as the title and author, and attachments all come through intact.
Bookmarks that pointed at a page you kept still go to that page, even though its number has changed. Bookmarks that pointed at a removed page are deleted, and any bookmarks nested under them move up a level instead of disappearing with them.
Links from one page to another keep working as long as both pages survive. A link that pointed to a page you removed no longer has anywhere to go, so it stops doing anything when clicked.
Removing a page you should not share
Some tools hide a deleted page rather than removing it. The page disappears from view, but its content stays inside the file, and anyone with the right software can get it back. That matters when the reason for deleting a page is that it contains a bank account number, a medical detail or another client’s information.
Here, everything that only the removed pages used is dropped from the file before it is saved: their text, their images and the fonts nothing else needs. You can see the effect in the file size, which shrinks in proportion to what was removed.
If the sensitive detail is on a page you still need, removing the page is the wrong tool. Covering it with a black box is not enough either, because the text usually remains underneath. That job needs proper redaction, which permanently deletes the content beneath the box.
Questions people actually ask
How do I delete a single page from a PDF?
Type its number into the pages box, for example 4, and press Remove Pages. The file you download has every page except that one, in the same order. Count from the first page of the file, not from any number printed on the page, which may start later than 1.
Can I delete several pages that are not next to each other?
Yes. List them with commas, and use a dash for runs of pages: 2, 5-7, 12 removes five pages in one go. The order you type them in makes no difference, and a number that appears twice is simply removed once. Everything you do not list is kept.
How do I replace a page in a PDF?
Remove the old page here, then use Merge PDF to combine the result with a file containing the new page. Finally, if the new page needs to sit in the middle rather than at the end, use Organize PDF to move it into position. Three short steps, each with nothing to install.
Will removing pages make my PDF smaller?
Yes, usually in proportion to what the removed pages contained. Their text, images and any fonts only they used are dropped from the file. Removing a page of plain text saves a little; removing scanned pages or pages full of photos can cut the file size substantially.
What is the difference between this and Split PDF?
They are opposites. Here you list the pages to throw away and get one file back with the rest. Split PDF works the other way: you list the pages to keep, or extract, and it can also break a document into several separate files, one for each range you name.
